About Nusa Living

In 2005, my great backpacking adventure began, which would change my life forever. After traveling around Thailand and Malaysia, I ended up in Indonesia, and I fell in love: with the unique culture, the beautiful nature, the friendly people, and all the lovely things they created. Filled with inspiration and ideas, I returned to the Netherlands and founded Nusa Living.
Today, we have our own factory in the east of Java, in a small village in the middle of the jungle. We have been producing lighting for our wholesale business and for Nusa Living here for years. About forty people from the surrounding villages contribute to this special process. Everything is done in-house: from punching the shells into the right shape, to making the bases and molds, and finally, loading the container.
For the home accessories and furniture, I work with small family businesses on Java and Bali. Each and every one of them is a true craftsperson with their own specialty. For example, one specializes in wood carvings, another in weaving rattan or reed, or they sell traditional items from Sumba. Together with them, I curate our collection, with nature as our starting point. Not only because I am a great nature lover myself, but also because of the sustainability and beautiful appearance of these materials. All materials we use – from wood to capiz shells and bamboo – are responsibly sourced and certified.
Feel free to look around online or drop by our showroom in Rijen.
Best,
Floor
